St. Louis Trip Informational Meeting

The Bureau County Farm Bureau and Tri-State Travel are pleased to announce their summer trip. In July of 2014 we will be traveling to St. Louis! This 4 day, 3 night trip will take place from July 20-23.

Your vacation package includes deluxe motor coach transportation from Princeton, 3 nights' accommodations, 3 breakfasts/1 dinner and 2 kickback receptions, the St. Louis Arch tram, a full time tour director and luggage handling.

Summer Ag Institute for Teachers- Dissecting Your Food Labels

Applications are now available for this year's Summer Agricultural Institute II, targeted to pre-school to high school educators who want to expand their curriculum to include topics related to agriculture. This year's program will feature two separate sessions where class participants will learn about how to relate featured topics into their classroom lessons. The dates for the Bureau, Lee and Whiteside County Summer Ag Institute II are June 16 and June 17.

Ag in the Classroom Golf Outing

June 20, 2014 - 9:00am
Bureau and Lee County Farm Bureaus will be hosting their 5th Annual Golf Outing for supporters of Ag in the Classroom. The outing will be held on Friday, June 20th at Timber Creek Golf Course in Dixon, IL. The Tournament will be a shot-gun start, 4- person scramble. Tee time is 9 a.m. and lunch (provided by COUNTRY Financial) will be served for all teams and sponsors during the event. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Bureau and Lee County Ag in the Classroom program.

Foundation Tractor Trek

Save the Date!!! The Bureau County Farm Bureau Foundation is putting the final touches on plans for our third annual Tractor Trek. The Tractor Trek will be held on Saturday June 21, 2014, rain or shine! This year's event is an effort to raise funds for the Ag in the Classroom Program. Participants will have the opportunity to share the exciting event with other antique tractor enthusiasts as they travel through the Southeastern half of Bureau County. Pre-registration is required by completing a registration form by June 6th. There is a registration fee of $50.

Ag Service Award Nominees Sought

Once again this year the Bureau County Farm Bureau, Bureau County County Cattleman's Association and supporters of Bureau County pork production are sponsoring the Agricultural Service Award. The purpose for this award, is to provide an opportunity for Bureau County agricultural organizations and businesses to honor individuals who have given exemplary leadership and service to agriculture and farmers in Bureau County and beyond.

2014 Ag Fair held to Celebrate of National Ag Month

The Twentieth annual 4th grade Ag Fair was held on March 20th at the Bureau County Fairgrounds. This year the Ag Fair was attended by 24 classes composed of almost 450 students and approximately 30 adults and teachers. The 24 classes were divided between morning and afternoon sessions. The students visited 14 different sessions were they had a nine minute mini lesson on agriculture.
This year's sessions were as follows:
1 - Water Jeopardy provided by the Bureau County Soil and Water
2 -Pork provided by the Bureau County Pork Producers

Meet your Bureau County Farm Bureau Director- Rex Elmore

Rex Elmore has been a member of the Bureau County Farm Bureau since 1975. He decided to join the Board of Directors after being asked to do so, as he felt it was a privilege to be able to serve. Rex believes the most beneficial aspect of being with the Farm Bureau is staying involved in policy development, with which he has stayed active through trips to Washington, D.C. and the IAA Annual Meeting in Chicago.

Labor Pool Listing Offered

The Bureau County Farm Bureau Young Leaders Committee is sponsoring a farm labor pool listing for Bureau County residents. The committee is compiling a list of people who are looking for agricultural related work. The list will then be available at the Farm Bureau Office in Princeton, and will be accessible to anyone who needs farm help. To have your information on the listing, a form is available at the Farm Bureau Office or by calling (815) 875-6468 or email jillfrueh.bcfb@comcast.net. The deadline for the sign up for the spring farm labor pool is February 28, 2014.
