Stroke Detection Screening Scheduled

Stoke is a major public health concern.  The mortality rate, medical cost and disability burden for those suffering a stroke is significant and disturbing.  Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. and kills more woman than breast cancer every year. Unfortunately, most people don’t notice a sign or symptom until after a stroke occurs. Farm Bill Member Input Sessions

The current farm bill might not officially expire for a couple of years, but the discussion for the next one has already started. You’ll have three opportunities next month to offer ideas on what is important to you in the next federal farm bill.  Illinois Beef Association, Illinois Corn Growers Association, Illinois Farm Bureau, Illinois Pork Producers Association and Illinois Soybean Growers are working together to host listening sessions throughout Illinois in November. Local and Regional Food Summit

The sixth annual Local and Regional Food Conference, which brings farmers and industry together to learn how to be engaged in meeting the demand for local and regional food will take place Nov. 15, 2016, at The Pavilion in Marion, IL.  The one-day event is a collaboration of the Illinois Farm Bureau and southern Illinois Farm Bureaus, Missouri Farm Bureau, Kentucky Farm Bureau, Indiana Farm Bureau, Illinois Department of Agriculture, Southern Illinois University, University of Illinois Extension, Food Works, and Illinois Specialty Growers Association.  READ MORE

College Day for High School Students

The Bureau County Farm Bureau, along with Marshall-Putnam and Stark County Farm Bureaus will be hosting a College Open House Day for Agriculture on Wednesday, November 16th from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Birkey’s Farm Store in Henry.  This is a great opportunity for area students to meet locally with representatives of these schools.  READ MORE

County Farm Bureau® Foundation Scholarship Offered

The Bureau County Farm Bureau Foundation is pleased to announce that they are offering scholarships to area students majoring in agriculture. Again this year is a graduate student scholarship, which will benefit Bureau County students further their education in agriculture.  Application requirements are the same as the general scholarship. Applications are due February 28.  READ MORE

Bureau County Young Leaders Advance to State Discussion Meet

Five Bureau County Farm Bureau Young Leaders took part in the District 4 YL Discussion Meet in Mendota on Monday, August 22nd.  Seven Young Leaders in all took part in the event.  The Discussion Meet, sponsored by the IFB Young Leader Committee, is an exchange of ideas and information, about a particular topic, in which contestants must analyze problems and determine logical solutions.  READ MORE

COUNTRY Financial Representatives Recognized for their Membership Efforts

COUNTRY Financial agents in Bureau, Henry and Stark counties participated in a Farm Bureau membership drive during the months of May and June. This event was sponsored by the Membership Committees in those counties along with Illinois Farm Bureau and COUNTRY Financial. All agents were recognized for their efforts at an outing in Annawan on August 17th.  READ MORE

New Bureau County Ag Literacy Coordinator Announced

Hello! My name is Janell Happ, and I am the new Ag Literacy Coordinator for Bureau County. Agriculture has long been a part of my life. Growing up in Lee County, I spent as much time as I could on my grandparents’ farm. My love for agriculture continued to grow as I took part in 4-H and the FFA program at Mendota High School. After college, my husband and I settled on his family’ sesquicentennial farm in rural Mendota where we raise crops, Hereford beef cattle, and 2 fun-loving little boys.  READ MORE

Bureau County AgVocate Award Winner Named

The Bureau County Farm Bureau awarded the first annual Bureau County AgVocate Award.  This award provides an opportunity for Bureau County Farm Bureau to recognize families and/or individuals who have made an impact on Bureau County agriculture through leadership and service.

To qualify, a nominee should be a Farm Bureau member who has demonstrated leadership and service within the community. Nominees must have provided service to agriculture but may come from disciplines that serve other areas in addition to agriculture, such as education, research, public relations, agribusiness, public affairs and other areas.  Such individuals should also have a history of giving time and/or resources to promote the aims, programs and services of Bureau County agricultural organizations.  READ MORE

Water Testing Program Available

The Bureau County Farm Bureau, has teamed up with Nutrient Stewardship of Northern Illinois to host free water testing open house days for private landowners and operators. Beginning in June, an open house from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. will be held each Friday at the Bureau County Farm Bureau, 535 Elm Place, in Princeton. READ MORE

Plat Books and Rural Directories Available

The 2015 Rockford Map plat book accurately displays parcel boundaries, acreage data, roadways, waterways, railways, section lines, municipal boundaries, and includes an index to owners. An additional map feature included in the new plat book is aerial map images. An aerial map lies opposite each township parcel map, and is very useful in providing a quick gauge to the use of a particular parcel. Latitude/Longitude grids for GPS reference are also provided along with a rural addressing grid.  READ MORE

Bureau County Farm Bureau members Donate to U of I Extension

The Bureau County Farm Bureau donated $1,414.00 to the Bureau County Extension Unit, thanks to generous donations received from Farm Bureau members.   READ MORE

4th Grade Ag Fair Held

The 22nd annual 4th grade Ag Fair was held on March 17th at the Bureau County Fairgrounds.  This year the Ag Fair was attended by nearly 400 students and approximately 30 adults and teachers.  The classes were divided between morning and afternoon sessions.  The students visited 14 different sessions where they had a nine minute mini lesson on the agricultural industry.  READ MORE

FOID Card Application Changes

*Due to the following change the Bureau County Farm Bureau will no longer be offering FOID card services.  We apologize for any inconvience.*

The Illinois State Police (ISP) announced on March 6, 2015, the agency will now be accepting on-line FOID applications, to provide a more streamlined modernized application process.  READ MORE
