Upcoming Bureau County Events

Defensive Driving Course

The Bureau, Henry, and Stark County Farm Bureaus will be hosting a Defensive Driving Course on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 28-29 at the Black Hawk College Community Education Center in Kewanee at 404 East Third Street, from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Both days must be attended to receive the certification. The registration fee of $30 covers course materials and lunch for both days.

Farm Labor Pool Listing Offered

The Bureau County Farm Bureau Young Leaders Committee is sponsoring a farm labor pool listing for Bureau County residents. The committee is compiling a list of people who are looking for agricultural related work. The list will then be available at the Farm Bureau Office in Princeton, and will be accessible to anyone who needs farm help. To have your information on the listing, a form is available at the Farm Bureau Office or by calling (815) 875-6468 or email jillfrueh.bcfb@comcast.net. The deadline for the sign up for the spring farm labor pool is September 26.

COUNTRY Agent Membership Efforts Recognized

COUNTRY Financial agents in Bureau, Henry and Stark counties participated in a Farm Bureau membership drive during the months of May and June. This event was sponsored by the Membership Committees in those counties along with Illinois Farm Bureau and COUNTRY Financial. All agents were recognized for their efforts at an outing in Annawan on August 6th. A total of 48 members were added to the membership rolls in Bureau County because of their efforts. Congratulations to the top recruiting agent from Bureau County, Crane Schafer!

The Best of Ireland & Scotland Trip Planned for 2015

The Bureau County Farm Bureau is pleased to announce an exciting trip for the summer of 2015. This 11 day, 10 night trip will take place from July 20- 31, 2015.

Some sights you will see are Edinburgh Castle, Cairngorms National Park, Loch Ness, Rosslyn Chapel, Ayrshire coast, Titanic Belfast Museum, Dublin, Blarney and Cork, Ring of Kerry, Cliffs of Moher and Galway, Connemara just to name a few. This trip will be packed with must see sightseeing destinations along with farm tours to fit all interests.

Farmer For A Day Activity Held

Numerous families from Bureau County and beyond attended the 159th Bureau County Fair August 20-24 in Princeton. Farm Bureau volunteers were present to greet the attendees and usher them into the make-believe farmer for a day activity.

Teacher Grants Available for AITC

The Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom program and the IAA Foundation, along with the Illinois Farm Bureau® are pleased to announce our 2014-2015 Classroom grants.

Teachers are urged to apply for these (up to) $250 classroom grants to incorporate new and exciting agriculture related topics into their existing classrooms. Additionally, five other special book grants are available for teachers to easily incorporate lessons, which are tied to the Common Core Learning Standards, into their existing Language Arts and Social Studies curriculum.
