ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE TO OFFER FREE RECYCLING PROGRAM FOR AGRICHEMICAL CONTAINERS
The Illinois Department of Agriculture is encouraging farmers and agrichemical facilities to save their empty agrichemical containers. The Department announced today it has arranged to recycle them.
Beginning at the end of July and continuing in August, sites throughout the State will collect containers. The containers will be recycled to make shipping pallets, fence posts, drainage tubing, plastic lumber and other useful products. READ MORE

Agricultural Literacy Coordinator Position Available
The Bureau County Farm Bureau is seeking to fill its part-time Agricultural Literacy Coordinator position. The Coordinator will be responsible for providing and creating science-based curriculum material, presentations, and training opportunities to audience's ages Pre-K through adult. The coordinator will be responsible for monthly classroom lessons in classrooms throughout Bureau County. The coordinator will be responsible for agricultural, environmental, natural resource programs and other curriculum. READ MORE
Bureau County AgVocate Award Winner Named
The Bureau County Farm Bureau awarded the first annual Bureau County AgVocate Award. This award provides an opportunity for Bureau County Farm Bureau to recognize families and/or individuals who have made an impact on Bureau County agriculture through leadership and service.
To qualify, a nominee should be a Farm Bureau member who has demonstrated leadership and service within the community. Nominees must have provided service to agriculture but may come from disciplines that serve other areas in addition to agriculture, such as education, research, public relations, agribusiness, public affairs and other areas. Such individuals should also have a history of giving time and/or resources to promote the aims, programs and services of Bureau County agricultural organizations. READ MORE
Water Testing Program Available
The Bureau County Farm Bureau, has teamed up with Nutrient Stewardship of Northern Illinois to host free water testing open house days for private landowners and operators. Beginning in June, an open house from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. will be held each Friday at the Bureau County Farm Bureau, 535 Elm Place, in Princeton. READ MORE

Five Students Receive Foundation Scholarships
Five Bureau County students will receive financial assistance from the Bureau County Farm Bureau Foundation to help cover costs associated with continuing their education. The Foundation Board of Directors has named McKenzie Cain of Princeton, Kaitlyn Hildebrand of Ohio, Kalie Rumbold of Wyanet, Malena Wheeler of Tiskilwa and Nicole Yaklich of Princeton as the 2016 recipients of the Bureau County Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarships. Plat Books and Rural Directories Available
The 2015 Rockford Map plat book accurately displays parcel boundaries, acreage data, roadways, waterways, railways, section lines, municipal boundaries, and includes an index to owners. An additional map feature included in the new plat book is aerial map images. An aerial map lies opposite each township parcel map, and is very useful in providing a quick gauge to the use of a particular parcel. Latitude/Longitude grids for GPS reference are also provided along with a rural addressing grid. READ MORE

More than 350 FFA members, County Farm Bureau Managers, FFA advisors from 74 Illinois counties attended the 2016 Illinois Farm Bureau® & Affiliates Youth Conference, April 4-5 at the Embassy Suites, East Peoria. READ MORE

The Bureau County Farm Bureau donated $1,414.00 to the Bureau County Extension Unit, thanks to generous donations received from Farm Bureau members. READ MORE
Brummel Attends Leaders to Washington
Bureau County Farm Bureau Board member, Richard Brummel, participated in the Illinois Farm Bureau Leaders to Washington trip in late March. During this fast paced trip, leaders discussed current issues and advocated for Illinois agriculture with legislators and staffers. READ MORE

Illinois Farm Bureau® created "Agricultural Leaders of Tomorrow" (ALOT), an agricultural leadership development program designed to give participants a head start on tackling tomorrow's responsibilities. READ MORE
4th Grade Ag Fair Held
The 22nd annual 4th grade Ag Fair was held on March 17th at the Bureau County Fairgrounds. This year the Ag Fair was attended by nearly 400 students and approximately 30 adults and teachers. The classes were divided between morning and afternoon sessions. The students visited 14 different sessions where they had a nine minute mini lesson on the agricultural industry. READ MORE
Placemat Contest Winners Announced
Congratulations to our winners of the 2nd Annual Placemat Design Contest for the National Ag Week’s Salute to Ag Breakfast! Third grade students from around the county were asked to create placemats following the theme “I Can’t Go A Day Without Agriculture”. READ MORE

County Annual Meeting Held
Bureau County Farm Bureau hosted its 101st Annual Meeting on January 28, 2016. During the meeting, legislators and other special guests were introduced, members were elected to serve on the 2016 Bureau County Farm Bureau board and official business was approved. William Anderson Competes in State YL Discussion Meet

FOID Card Application Changes

The Illinois State Police (ISP) announced on March 6, 2015, the agency will now be accepting on-line FOID applications, to provide a more streamlined modernized application process. READ MORE

The new 2015 Bureau County Land Atlas and Plat Book is nowavailable for purchase through the Bureau County Farm Bureau. The new plat book is produced by Rockford Map Publishers, located in Rockford, IL. This is the 19th edition of the Bureau County Plat Book produced by Rockford Map Publishers since the first edition in 1952. READ MORE

The Bureau County Farm Bureau Young Leaders Committee has wrapped up its farm labor pool application period. This listing for Bureau County residents interested in full or part time agricultural related labor is has now been compiled.
