Nutrient Stewardship Summer Field Day

Nutrient Stewardship of Northern Illinois and its partners are proud to announce their summer field day. Events will take place on- Indian Township, Section 36 location (1/2 mile south of the Kentville Road on 1725 E Street).  This farm is owned by Robert Kenney and Helen Kenney and farmed by the Todd Wright Family. The field day will take place on Tuesday, August 22nd with registration starting at 8:30am and programs at 9am. 

The day’s events start with a welcome and then continue with speakers covering subjects relating to Cover Crops and Field Pit Demo- Dan Towery with Ag Conservation Solutions, Nutrient Management/Cover Crops- Michael Ruffatti, Research Assistant from Illinois State University, Erika Luft, NRCS - Cover Crop Cost Share Programs and Updates on the Local Nitrate Monitoring Project- Alan Madison & Gregg Pearson, local committee members.

Other events of the day will be cover crop plot tour, cover crop pit demonstration and strip till field demonstrations following the meeting, weather permitting.

Water testing will be available for those landowners or operators who would like to test their tiles, streams or ponds for Nitrates. Please be sure to collect the sample within 24 hours of the test and keep refrigerated.  When collecting please measure the flow and keep tract how long it takes to fill a 2 (or 5) gallon bucket.  These results will be kept anonymous and are only for private use.  

Food will be available for purchase from the Princeton FFA Alumni.
