SUMMARY:Postponed for Later Date- Stroke Detection Screening
DESCRIPTION:Farm Bureau Members Receive Discount on Stroke Screenings \nEveryone has risk associated with Stroke. Knowing your risk and getting a fast and painless stroke screening are your best defenses against a life threatening or life-altering event. \nMany people go through their daily routines without realizing how close they are to suffering a life-threatening stroke.  And\, unfortunately\, most people don’t have symptoms or signs before a stroke occurs. That’s why stroke is commonly referred to as the “silent killer\,” ranking as the third leading cause of death in the United States. \nBut new mobile technology is available today to help individuals determine their stroke risk in advance so they can take steps to improve their health. \nStroke Detection Plus will be screening at the Prouty Building\, 435 South Main Street\, Princeton\, on Wednesday\, March 25\, from 9:00-4:00. \nA complete wellness profile (ultrasound screening for Stroke\, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm\, Peripheral Arterial Disease\, and Osteoporosis) is only $100 for Farm Bureau members. That is a $35 savings over the $135 the general public will pay. Now\, add an EKG to detect Atrial Fibrillation for just an additional $35. \n Appointments are necessary. To set up an appointment\, call toll-free 1-877-732-8258. \nA two-minute virtual tour of the screenings can be found at  www.strokedetectionplus.com \nPeople over the age of 40 are encouraged to get tested especially with one or more of the following risk factors: high blood pressure\, diabetes\, more than 20 pounds overweight\, smoke\, have high cholesterol\, inactive lifestyle\, or have a family medical history of heart disease or stroke. \nA stroke screening will help to identify these blood flow blockages. Stroke Detection Plus\, a mobile vascular screening company\, uses ultrasound technology to find blockages in the body’s blood vessels that could lead to a stroke.  Call today for your appointment! \n

SUMMARY:Rules for the Road Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Motor Vehicle Rules for Illinois Farmers \nTrucking regulations can be complicated\, and farm exemptions compound that problem. It seems everyone has a different answer to your question.  Come join us at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday\, March 5 at Tettens Grain\, 1684 Nachusa Rd\, Dixon\, to find out what you need to know. \nWe’re hosting a two-hour meeting for Farm Bureau members that focuses on trucking laws specifically for farmers.  We’ll introduce you to new rules\, remind you of the old ones that still apply\, and help you figure out whether exemptions are available. \nThroughout it all\, you’ll have the chance to ask those farm trucking questions that everyone has an opinion about\, but no one can agree on an answer. \nWe will invite enforcement agencies you encounter on the road to discuss the rules and things they see most often from farmers. \nPresenting the seminar will be Kirby Wagner who specializes in farm transportation issues for the Illinois Farm Bureau®. \nPlease call 815-857-3531 or email leecfb@comcast.net by February 28 to reserve your place at the Rules for the Road Meeting. \n

SUMMARY:Farmland Assessment Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Representative Dan Swanson is partnering with the Henry\, Knox and Bureau County Farm Bureaus® to host a farmland assessment meeting in each of the three counties.  The purpose of these meetings is to discuss increasing property assessments and adjustments due to flooding.  The meetings will be held on Monday\, March 2 at: \n\n8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Carl Sandburg College\, 2400 Tom L. Wilson Blvd.\, Galesburg\n2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Bureau County Metro Center\, 837 Park Avenue West\, Princeton\n5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Black Hawk East Auditorium\, 26230 Black Hawk Road\, Galva\n\nDue\, in part\, to a change in the Farmland Assessment Act\, all farmland assessments will continue to go up.  The rate of increase will be largely dependent on the soil type.  Poorer soils will continue to see higher than 10% increases while better producing soils can expect an increase of less than 10%.   This increase in assessed values will be reflected on property tax bills payable in 2020 and for several years to come. \nAdditional information will be provided on the opportunity to receive a flood debasement on those acres that saw crop loss and prevented plant due last year’s flooding. \nThe presentations\, given by Brenda Matherly\, Director of Local Government with Illinois Farm Bureau®\, will give you a better understanding on how farmland assessments are calculated and the long-term impact on those values. \nTo accommodate seating and materials please pre-register with the Knox County Farm Bureau (309) 342-2036\, Bureau County Farm Bureau (815) 875-6468 or Henry County Farm Bureau (309) 937-2411.

SUMMARY:Silo Movie and Farmer Demo
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that because of major community support\, the movie SILO will be coming to Bureau County this winter.  SILO is the first ever featured film about grain entrapment. Inspired by true events\, SILO follows a harrowing day in an American farm town. Disaster strikes when teenager Cody Rose is entrapped in a 50-foot tall grain bin. When the corn turns to quicksand\, family\, neighbors and first responders must put aside their differences to rescue Cody from drowning in the crop that has sustained their community for generations. \nThe movie will take place Monday\, February 24th at 5:30 p.m. at the Bureau Valley High School Auditorium.  Sponsors for the movie are The Shark Farmer\, Princeton Firefighters Local 4308\, Bureau County Farm Bureau Young Leaders and Bureau Valley FFA.  Reservations are required by calling the Bureau County Farm Bureau at (815) 875-6468 or through the Facebook Event. \nAfter the movie\, a farmer demonstration by Stateline Farm Rescue is planned at a nearby location.  Reservations are required for the training for an accurate meal count.
